Steel castings are often used when Iron castings do not offer enough strength or shock resistance. Three common types of Steel used for casting: Carbon, Stainless and High Alloy. There are many different Steel Alloys. Two common types: Heat resistant, Corrosion resistant.

Common Carbon Steel:

• Specification: ASTM A27
• Grades: 1020, 1025, 1030, 1040

Common Stainless Steel:

• Specification: ASTM A743
• Grades: 302, 303, 304, 316

High Alloy Steel:

• Specification: ASTM A743
• Grades: 410, 416, 420

Special Alloy Steel: Nickel & Copper based:

• Specification: ASTM A494
• Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel
